100 Austrian Schilling Gold Coin | 1925–1934

The 100 Austrian Schilling Gold Coin was one of the first gold issues of the newly introduced Schilling currency in Austria. Following the “Schilling Act” of 20 December 1924, the Schilling officially replaced the Krone on 1 March 1925. In 1926, the Austrian Mint released the 100 Schilling gold coin alongside the 25 Schilling gold coin, marking the beginning of gold coinage in the First Austrian Republic.

Historical Background

Minted from 1926 to 1934, the coins feature the emblem of the First Republic. Later issues from 1935 to 1938 display the emblem of the Corporate State. The 100 Schilling gold coins are highly valued by collectors for their historical significance and elegant design, as well as their investment value due to high gold purity.

Design Details

Obverse: At the centre is the federal eagle of the First Republic, holding a sickle blade on the right and a hammer on the left. The eagle’s chest bears a red shield with a criss-crossed silver crossbar. Around the eagle are the inscriptions “REPUBLIC” (above) and “AUSTRIA” (below), framed by dotted circles near the rim.

Reverse: Displays the denomination “100” above “Schilling” and the year of issue in three descending lines. The designer’s name, “HARTIG” (Arnold Hartig), appears in small letters. Decorative ears of grain flank the “100”, while a wavy border encircles the edge.
